Ep. 36 - Kellie Parr

Episode 36 of Something In The Water brings the lovely and talented singer-songwriter-guitarist, Kellie Parr, of Saint Simons Island, Georgia. As a young girl, Kellie grew up around the saltwater of Little Satilla River in Brunswick, Georgia, where crabbing, shrimping, fishing, and skiing gave way to adult jobs: Bahamas boat captain, sailboat dolphin tours, scuba instructor, and record store owner. Music has always played a huge part in her life, growing up with a mother who sang professionally, then, while studying at Florida State University, forming her first serious group, The Shatterposts, and opening for The Afghan Whigs and Uncle Tupelo. (Listen to an audio clip of the band here: https://youtu.be/DfCwoykOlwM) Nowadays, you’ll find her either soloing in a local pub or fronting her vintage, honky-tonk, rockabilly group, Kellie and The Kruze-O-Matics. Kellie shares her songwriting talents with cohosts Sean Clark and Uncle Dave Griffin on a clever murder ballad, “Feelin’ Bluegrass Blue”, an up-tempo I-got-the-blues-and-booze finger-snapper, “Early Night”, and a classic love song called “I Know Your Song By Heart”. As much good as you’ll find in watching and listening to this pretty songbird, Uncle Dave and Sean are bent and determined to steer the conversation to such topics as Tesla turn signal flatulence, Jeffrey Dahmer jokes, and the heartache of broken G-strings. This episode is brought to you by the 12th Annual Swamptown Getdown Music and Arts Festival, March 10-11-12, at the Okefenokee Fairgrounds in Waycross, Georgia.
