Ep. 42 - Flintlock Annie
Episode 42 of Something In The Water welcomes a couple of west Georgia singer-songwriters, DeAnna Verneau and Daniel Parrish, of Flintlock Annie, a self-described grungy Americana band with leanings to country, soul, and blues. DeAnna began her musical journey as a 17-year-old Albany, Georgia vocalist who later worked with another popular local group, Meow Ka-Pow. Daniel was a late bloomer, first getting into guitar in his college years, followed by songwriting, sound production, and finally performing in bands. He hails from Pavo, Georgia, a small town outside of Moultrie and home of the late Cleve Dean, who in the mid-to-late Seventies was Arm-Wrestling Champion of the world. The musical segment features the duo performing a stripped down “Absent Cowboy”, with lyrics written by Jeff Hill, lead vocalist of the screamo group, Machinist; along with the Parrish-penned “Somewhere Alabama”. From their 2022 album, Moonshine Sin, we listen to “War Boys”, a powerful, open-chord, rock and roll number that was cowritten by the two songwriters on the night that Flintlock Annie was born.
